McKenzie shines at Samford multis meet

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – McNeese’s Grace McKenzie came within four points of setting a new McNeese indoor track and field record in the pentathlon as her 3,653 placed her fourth at the 2017 Samford Heptathlon/Pentathlon Meet on Thursday.

Her total just missed out on the school record of 3,656 set by Mariah Georgetown on Jan. 28, 2012.

In addition to her PR in total points, the sophomore recorded PRs in the 60-meter hurdles (9.11) and 800-meters (2:23.29) while tying a PR in the long jump (16-8.5).

McKenzie beat out six other athletes from the Southland Conference, including 2016 SLC outdoor heptathlon champion and indoor silver medalist Madeline Kaufmann of Stephen F. Austin.
