Six Belgooly AC athletes braved not only a very hilly course but weather conditions that made finishing the run a success in itself. The Athletes were Andrew Martin, Adam Phelan, Daniel Mackey, Timmy, Peter and Brian Hawkins. A great thank you also has to go out to Richard Hawkins who filled in on the day when 2 Belgooly coaches got sick. That finishes the X country season for 2016. A big thank you also goes out to the parents who endured the weather extremes to transport the athletes to the various venues over the last few months. The next big event we have coming up is the Cork County Track & Field events in May. All the training that people have done to prepare for the X Country will give them a great foundation for the track events.
Here are some photos from the X Country in Waterford (I feel cold just looking at them).
McNeese sophomore multi-event athlete Grace McKenzie has been voted as this week’s Southland Conference Women’s Track Athlete of the Week presented by UniversalCoin.com, the league office announced on Wednesday.
McKenzie is coming off the best outing of her career in the pentathlon at the Samford Heptathlon & Pentathlon last week, and one of the best in school history.
She set a personal record and came four points shy of the school mark with 3653 points for a fourth place finish in the pentathlon.
The Cork, Ireland native also posted event PRs in the 800-meter (2:23.59), long jump (16-8.5) and 60-meter hurdles (9.11). Her point total is ranked first in the Southland Conference by more than 100 points, and is ranked 21st nationally.
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – McNeese’s Grace McKenzie came within four points of setting a new McNeese indoor track and field record in the pentathlon as her 3,653 placed her fourth at the 2017 Samford Heptathlon/Pentathlon Meet on Thursday.
Her total just missed out on the school record of 3,656 set by Mariah Georgetown on Jan. 28, 2012.
In addition to her PR in total points, the sophomore recorded PRs in the 60-meter hurdles (9.11) and 800-meters (2:23.29) while tying a PR in the long jump (16-8.5).
McKenzie beat out six other athletes from the Southland Conference, including 2016 SLC outdoor heptathlon champion and indoor silver medalist Madeline Kaufmann of Stephen F. Austin.
Well the results are in for the Munster Juvenile girls pentathlon events from yesterday. As I said there were creditable performance from the Belgooly AC athletes that took part. Congratulations to Hannah Falvey who won girls U12 Pentathlon, breaking a Munster Record for the Long Jump & a personal best with a jump of 4.54mtrs & equaling a Munster Record for the 60m Sprint with a Time of 8.65 secs, also Breaking a Munster Record for the Penthatlon Points with a total of 1506pts, with Abbey Dorney coming in a strong 10th. In the Girls U11 Clara Sievewright was a strong 5th in her first Pentathlon. A big mention to Aisling Henchy who unfortunately injured herself in her first event but her bravery and encouragement for her fellow Belgooly AC competitors shows the tight bond and friendship between these athletes. Here’s looking forward to a very productive 2017. Here are a few photos from 07/01/2017.
